On this project, Nikki Rosen Design transformed a traditional Federation home into a contemporary, bright and liveable family home.

The entire property was reconfigured to suit the family’s lifestyle, beginning with the upper-floor bedrooms, wardrobes and bathrooms, continuing with the entry, staircase and home office, and concluding with a complete basement conversion.

“We needed to ensure the home absorbed as much natural light as possible to make it feel welcoming and fresh,” Nikki says. “Upstairs, the new guest bedroom and ensuite were created by extending an existing roof space, and building a new room and roof on to the old space, to capture the most amazing views of the northern Mosman inlets.”

The ensuite was configured to gain the most space internally, with a simple layout for the vanity, toilet and shower. The finishes were carried through the rest of the bathrooms, using stunning classical Calacatta marble benchtops, wall-hung pans with inbuilt cisterns, and Nikles shower heads and rails.

By lightening the walls, darkening the timber floors and adding incredible feature pendants throughout, the Federation property has been given a new lease of life.

“We used LA Lounge light fittings to give a soft subtle feel of illumination,” Nikki says.

“The cascading Bocci Lights from Hub Furniture in the staircase are stunning, and complements the modern take of the Federation feel.”

The end result is a home that stays true to the authenticity of the Federation architecture, but with modern joinery that complements the old-style house.

“The clients now feel like they are living in a luxurious light home with beautiful textural finishes.”
